About the Client

Memento Exclusives is a globally recognized name in the world of licensed motorsport memorabilia, headquartered in Northampton, United Kingdom. The company specializes in transforming authentic Formula 1, World Endurance Championship (WEC), and MotoGP components into collectible pieces and functional design objects that preserve the legacy of motorsport.

Founded by passionate motorsport enthusiasts, Memento Exclusives works directly with racing teams, drivers, and sanctioning bodies to source genuine components from championship-winning vehicles. These authentic parts are then carefully restored, mounted, and presented using custom-engineered display structures that highlight their provenance and engineering significance.

Their clientele spans professional racing teams, private collectors, high-performance automotive brands, and luxury lifestyle establishments seeking distinctive statement pieces. Each limited-edition release is accompanied by certification of authenticity and is designed to showcase the art and science of motorsport engineering in a tangible, refined form.

Memento Exclusives has established itself as the premier destination for collectors who demand both provenance and presentation quality, with products regularly featured in automotive media and displayed at international motorsport events.

What the Memento Team Needed

Memento Exclusives approached SHBD with a clear but demanding brief: produce a series of custom-engineered structural components that would serve as the foundation for their limited-edition racing memorabilia displays. These are not ordinary brackets and flanges — they are the visible interface between authentic motorsport history and the collector's environment. Every surface, every edge, every engraved logo must be flawless.

The Kingmade engineering team at SHBD worked closely with Memento's designers and technical staff throughout the development phase. The parts demanded:

  • Structural integrity — to safely support authentic F1 wheel assemblies and heavy engine components weighing up to 80 kg on custom display stands
  • Impeccable surface aesthetics — matte bead-blasted finishes with zero visible tool marks, paired with selectively polished surfaces for visual contrast
  • Brand-grade laser engraving — precise, repeatable branding and serial number engraving that meets luxury product standards
  • Repeatable precision — multi-batch dimensional consistency across small production runs for future collection expansions
  • Fast iteration — tight design-to-production cycles to align with limited-edition launch calendars

Beyond the technical specifications, Memento Exclusives needed a manufacturing partner who understood the intersection of engineering precision and visual craftsmanship — a partner who could deliver parts that tell a story through their material quality.

Precision Engineering for Memento Exclusives

The Kingmade engineering team approached this project with a four-phase methodology, treating each component as both a structural element and a visual statement. Here's how we brought Memento Exclusives' vision to life:

01

Design for Manufacture & Aesthetic Review

We began by conducting a comprehensive DFM analysis on Memento's CAD models, identifying opportunities to enhance both machinability and visual impact. Our engineers worked iteratively with their designers to refine fillet radii, wall thicknesses, and surface transitions — ensuring every edge would look purposeful under gallery lighting while maintaining structural integrity. The bead-blasted matte finish required careful material selection and toolpath planning from the outset.

02

Multi-Axis CNC Programming & Fixture Design

With 5-axis CNC machining capability, our programming team developed optimized toolpaths that minimized setup changes while achieving the required surface quality across complex geometries. Custom soft-jaw fixtures were designed to hold irregular bracket shapes without marking visible surfaces. For the precision-polished flanges, we engineered a progressive machining strategy that left optimal stock for the hand-polishing phase.

03

Precision Machining & Surface Finishing

High-strength aluminum billets were rough-machined, stress-relieved, and then finish-machined to ±0.02 mm tolerance. Each part underwent a multi-stage surface finishing process: precision bead blasting to achieve a uniform matte texture, followed by selective hand polishing on designated reference surfaces to create the signature two-tone aesthetic. Finally, each component received laser-engraved branding and serialization with micron-level registration accuracy.

04

Inspection, Assembly Validation & Delivery

Every component passed through a rigorous QC protocol including CMM dimensional verification, surface roughness measurement, and visual inspection under controlled lighting. We assembled each bracket and flange with the authentic motorsport components to validate fit, alignment, and load capacity before sign-off. Parts were individually packaged with anti-tarnish protection and shipped to Memento's Northampton facility, where they were integrated directly into their limited-edition display collections.

Technical Highlights

All structural mounting interfaces were machined to ±0.02 mm tolerance, ensuring that display brackets and flanges mate perfectly with authentic F1 and MotoGP components. Dimensional verification was performed using CMM equipment with full measurement reports provided for each batch.

A two-stage finishing process was developed: precision bead blasting at controlled pressure to achieve a uniform matte texture (Ra 1.6 µm), followed by selective hand polishing of designated aesthetic surfaces to a mirror-like finish. This dual-texture approach became the signature visual language of the collection.

Each component received laser-engraved Memento Exclusives branding, edition numbering, and authentication markings. Fiber laser parameters were optimized for high-contrast permanent marking on bead-blasted aluminum surfaces without damaging the surrounding finish. Registration accuracy was maintained within ±0.05 mm across all parts.

Critical display brackets and support structures were designed to bear the weight of authentic racing components — including complete F1 wheel assemblies and heavy engine sections. FEA analysis was performed during the design phase, and load testing validated each bracket's safety factor before final delivery.

The project spanned multiple production batches to support staggered product launches. Rigorous first-article inspection and in-process QC ensured that every batch matched the dimensional and cosmetic standards of the first. Process documentation and fixturing were preserved to enable seamless repeat orders for future collection editions.
