CNC Milling Surface Finishes

At SHBD Metal, we offer a comprehensive selection of surface finish options for CNC machined parts. From as-machined to decorative and protective finishes, our team can recommend the best surface treatment based on material, application, and budget. All finishing is performed in-house or through trusted partner facilities to ensure consistent quality.

As Machined Finish

The default finish after CNC machining. Parts have visible tool marks with a surface roughness typically between Ra 1.6–3.2 μm. Suitable for functional internal components where aesthetics are not critical. Cost-effective and fastest turnaround.

As Machined Finish
Sanding & Polishing

Removes tool marks and rough areas, delivering smooth, glossy surfaces while maintaining dimensional accuracy. Perfect for customer-facing parts and high-end prototypes.

Sanding & Polishing
Sandblasting & Bead Blasting

Sandblasting uses abrasive particles to create a textured finish, while bead blasting applies fine glass beads for a smooth, uniform matte appearance. Both processes eliminate imperfections and prepare surfaces for coatings.

Anodizing

Applied to aluminum parts, anodizing is one of the most widely used surface finishes for CNC milled parts, significantly increasing corrosion resistance, surface hardness, and overall durability. This process offers a wide range of color and texture options while maintaining tight machining tolerances, making it ideal for precision CNC machining applications in aerospace, electronics, medical devices, and industrial equipment.

E-Coating (Electrophoretic Coating)

Electrostatically applied for even coverage, E-Coating provides excellent corrosion protection and consistent finishes across complex geometries.

Tolerances for CNC Milling

We deliver CNC-milled parts with standard and high-precision tolerances, including tolerances down to ±0.01 mm for demanding applications. All parts are manufactured and inspected per your drawings and GD&T requirements to ensure consistent quality and fit. When 2D drawings are not available, general tolerances may follow ISO 2768, and GD&T definitions can be applied based on ASME Y14.5 standards where specified.
